International Fetish Day: How do you get kinky?

The third Friday in January is one of my favorite holidays: International Fetish Day.

According to Wikipedia, this holiday began in England in 2008 as “National Fetish Day” to “increase awareness and support of the fetish community, whilst also opposing the UK law criminalizing possession of “extreme pornography”. It is also designed to encourage members of the community to be more open about their sexuality.”

I love the last part of the mission in particular. If we don’t talk about our fetishes openly and honestly, then we’re likely to feel more ashamed of them. That is not at all how we should feel about our fetishes. I encourage you to embrace all the weird sexy thoughts that swirl around your head. I mean, as long as you using safe practices and make consent a priority, there’s nothing wrong with exploring your kinkier side.

Cause what’s a sex life without a few dirty fetishes, am I right?

Pretty vanilla.

If you’re anything like me, you like a little bit more flavor than that. A little more “spice”, if you will…

Well, that’s where the fetishes come in.

Now, I’m sure you know the ‘normal’ fetishes (and I put normal in quotes, because normal is relative… what might be normal for you may not be normal for others) like getting tied up, dom & sub play, and, of course, the always popular foot fetish.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Think anything, like, literally anything and there’s a fetish for it.

Got wood for wood? There’s a fetish for that.

Do the rays of the sun make you feel all hot and bothered? Yup, that’s a fetish.

Does a muscle-y statue made out of marble get you hard? Hello, there’s a fetish!

Does a foggy day cloud your head with thoughts of lust? Embrace that fetish!

Like I said, literally anything can be a fetish.

So, to celebrate International Fetish Day, I wanted to highlight some fetishes that are kind of easy to dip your toe into!

5 Fetishes to Try This ‘International Fetish Day’

  1. Katoptronophilia – If we’re being clever, this is nothing more than getting turned on by yourself! Well, the official definition is “arousal to sex in front of mirrors”, but who are you watching in the mirror? You! It’s amazing to see how the act of sex changes your body, seeing the slick wetness between your legs, or the flush in your face. You look sexy when you have sex and should be reminded of that!
  2. Nylons – There’s something old fashioned about this fetish that just tickles me! It’s as straighforward as it sounds, too! Do you get turned on by sexy legs in pantyhose? So whether you use garters or tights or normal pantyhose, this is an easy one to try at home.
  3. Cuckholding – There’s lots of jokes about this fetish in the media, but lots of folks get very fulfilled by practicing it. According to Sex Educator Tina Horn, cuckholding is, “when a heterosexual couple agrees to both explore the turn-on of the female sleeping with other men and humiliate her male partner about the fact that she’s sleeping with someone else.” If that makes you go, “WTF NOPE!” then this ones not for you! However if you surprised yourself by feeling a little tingle at the prospect of this? Do a little bit of exploring. Maybe you’d discover a whole new world.
  4. Autoplushophilia – You know about furries, right? Well, this that fetish! Autoplushophilia is “arousal to oneself dressed as a giant cartoon-like stuffed animal.” This fetish is easier than ever to test out these days, what with all the onsies on the market. If you’ve ever wanted to have sex while dressed up as a giant hedgehog, try this fetish immediately.
  5. Electronic Stimulation – I know you’ve heard me talk about this one before, but I just love introducing newbies to it. Electronic stimulation or E-stim uses the power of, you guessed it, electricity to stimulate you and your partner sexually. Of course, this should only happen with the proper equipment and enthusiastic consent from all parties.

That’s of the best things about having friends like us. We’re up for talking about anything and we love to guide couples on a path towards pure pleasure… however kinky that looks for them!

So if you have any questions about the fetishes above (or if you have one you’re thinking about trying but have no idea where to start), send us an email at info@sexpositiveme.com and we’ll see how we can help you, free of any shame or judgement.
